today at work i was overcome with this huge urge to play legend of zelda a link to the past.  but alas, my super nintendo is at home and i really didn't feel like sitting at my computer and playing it.  so i came home and lamented that fact and then was struck with a new idea: i'd play tactics ogre or chrono cross or something on the playstation.  until i found out that you can't interface ps2 mem cards with ps1 saves.  and i didn't feel like running out to compusa.  so instead i just played super smash brothers and watched american psycho.  what a silly movie.  and christian bale is british, and hearing him talk in that silly language after watching the movie was just tops.

listening to dj shadow now.  after hearing and becoming strangely enamored with "the 6 day war" of his new lp, i felt it was time to actually listen to ...endtroducing.  it's good stuff.  i mean, it takes a mood, the kinda mood that wants to be a little on edge listening to crazy john carpenter samples and what not.  but it's good.  what i like is that it's all samples, and whereas the avalanches disc, also all samples, is a party in a box, an album that prides itself on being made up of samples and nothing but, dj shadow takes the stuff and crafts songs that don't sound like a party throwing old tv dialogue over madonna bass lines.  it just sounds like some weird dude doing some crazy shit with spooky atmospheres and hip-hop.  and it also drives me crazy when i hear something and go "what the hell is that from."  like this sample.  oh shit, i think it's the music they play during those weird vh-1 insomnia commercials.  kickass.

i really want a drum machine.  and maybe some instructions on how to use it, and how to write lyrics and melody.  but just a drum machine will do for the moment.

has everyone gone out and bought the hot hot heat ep and requested it on the radio?  no?  c'mon guys, they're canadian.  you all suck.  now you can get me buffy for my birthday AND a topato/sherrif pony coffee mug.
