hmm weird, friday night at home just chilling out with a drink or two, listening to music, thinking about brenda walsh. heh, cute circa-one year ago freudian slip, but i mean brenda walsh of 90210 fame. i wish that show would start from ep one in syndication during some hour that i could watch it, because, well i don't know. kelly's hot. and shannon doherty is hot too. and tori spelling isn't. and luke perry is way old. i did see that one episode where the kid killed himself at the party. which reminds me of the first episode i saw of the commish, the one where jason's friend got shot. that episode ruled, and turned me on to the commish. so thereafter, every saturday night, after returning from a hard night's hanging out at the roller-rink, i would watch the commish. when tony's wife wraps his pen in the salami in the credits? that's pure genius.
i'm bored and there's nothing on the internet. 5 zillion web sites and nothing on. haha lol. :P
boy i'd rather be in a bar right now. but tony's phone wasn't working and there's no one else in boston currently as far as i know, so i was left with watching vh1 and stuff.
that mtv series sex in the 90s or is it sex in the 00's? that makes no sense, i don't know wtf it is, sex 2003 maybe? 2003 sexy after christ? something like that. anyway. a.) the show is not about sex at all and b.) the two i've seen have just been horribly depressing biographies of people who can't get a date. and now i'm listening to debbie gibson - electric youth, and no one can stop me. wow. i think that i've never heard this song before. it's one of those songs i downloaded because it would be funny to download it, but i never listened to it and furthermore, until the 7th grade, the only music i listened to was the oldie's station, so unlike all of america, i was not exposed to debbie gibson or color me badd or skid row. but one time i was watching mtv and there was some madonna video with a waterfall and my mom made a comment. also, when i lived in california i used to get up at 6am and watch mickey mousercize in the morning but not before climbing on the kitchen counter, taking about 10 chewable vitamin c's and hiding them under a pillow. oh, right. i didn't mousercize while watching the show, i'd lie on my stomach and watch it, while sneaking vitamin c's from under the pillow. on one hand, i was being lazy and basically sitting on my ass watching an exercise show... but on the other hand, i was being healthy and eating vitamin C. however, i felt that i had to hide that i was eating them. what's that all about.
also, i can't recall if this was a usual event or if it just happened once.
ok, lost in your eyes is on now. this one i have heard, and frankly, the debbie gibson hour is over. back to indie rock. ...or cutting crew. ooh, do i have flock of seagulls? cause that'd rock.
oh jesus, so my thermos came yesterday. the thing is sick. when i opened it, i immediately filled it with boiling water and put it in the fridge. this was about 6pm. at 11pm, i took it out of the fridge and opened it, and steam came out. this morning, at 7:30, i took the thermos from the fridge again and emptied its contents to make room for my coffee, and when the water hit the sink, big clouds of steam erupted. i don't understand it, but it's freaking rad.
this is almost taking me back to summer, but it's not hot enough and i'm above ground. oh shit, i wonder if the ted leo show is sold out tomorrow night... hmm, middle east website says nothing of the sort. cool. that'd be fun, be nice to see him full band.
oh no, i just found e-music, and it is good. how have i not known about this before. $10/month for unlimited high quality vbr mp3 downloads. already found like 6 cds i've been looking for and tens more that i'm more than happy to check out. weird. i just automatically assumed that no one could get online pay for music service right. but here it is, so right, so good. like, just looking through the artist list i see hundreds of dollars worth of albums that i've bought in the past year. unbelievable. who knew?
yeah, word.

'kinematically redundant, biomechanical demonoid' and with that, all hope was lost
i really need to start buying cds direct from the labels. newbury comics just sucks the life out of me these days. i go in there a few times a week looking to buy a long list of things, and if i'm lucky, i'll come across the cd i was looking for 3 weeks ago. Such was the case today. Finally got the new styrofoam cd as well as the decemberists. now granted, i have all the decemberists mp3s, but i like the way the cd looks, and i was missing the last track... which was the absolute coolest song they did live when i saw them. 10 minutes long too.
i think morr music is my new favorite label. styrofoam, lali puna, ms. john soda, mum, guitar, friends with notwist, and the whole blue skied an' clear comp. it's just sweet, sweet stuff. i guess a lot of the stuff is the low key melodic electronic stuff, and i can see how that can grow old, but i love the direction music is going with their lead artists. the shit styrofoam and lali puna and ms john soda are doing, taking sweet sweet pop and sweet sweet glitchy electronics and beeps abd boops and washes of sound, and mixing them, and yeah. i'm just like, "rad." and thomas morr? the dude who hand picks this small but quality stable of artists? he djs at label shows. that's just rad. ok, enough of that.
tomorrow is thursday. that's rad. i haven't played much gameboy today or yesterday, which is a shame.
uh, went to roggie's last night for a beer with katie adam and sean. and umm, riley sucks hard. and err, i need to be able to flirt with bank girlfriend more because it's fun and gives me some purpose during the workday.
i should clean my desk sometime. oh man, love it. styrofoam=bliss.

baron von bubba?
well, i think katie yelled at me last night for not writing in this, although it could be a dream. so perhaps i will try to get back on the camel, or elephant, horse? yeah, horse, jesus that was dumb of me.
Anyway, first, I will begin writing what i know. And all i know right now is Tetris.
I've fallen hard for classic gaming recently, largely due to the NES emulator i loaded on to my gameboy. Tetris and Bubble Bobble have been huge. Tetris perhaps the hugest. The game just has a sick addictive quality to it, one that i'm sure noone is stranger to.
Anyway, i'm very good at Tetris. And each time i've played in the past few days, i'm doing better. Aside from the fact that the speed jump from level 15 to 16 is, like, really big, the biggest problem i'm running into is negotiating on what point of the tricky risk/reward curve maximum awesomeness lies. For instance, playing a straight go-only-for-tetrises game, while ending early quite often, has in the past couple days gotten me a score of over 160,000 with only 110 lines or so. However, take the game i just played, i played more conservatively, clearing lines however i could if the stack got too high and in the endgame almost going strictly for maintaining a row height of 5 or less. Anyway, with this play mode, my score was only 130k something, but i got 172 lines. What needs to be found where the "get a lot of lines" curve intersects with the "get high score" curve. and at that point, either my supply and demand will be at an equillibrium and there will be no diminishing returns. Given of course, fairly liberal economic restrictions as well as a bull market.
here is a visual:
yeah. Also, the music is very important. I'm a song 3 guy, it's so soothing.
Our kitchen faucet is now rocking a PUR water filter. The water filter is just one part of my million dollar project to save money by making my own coffee. Well, saving money has no part of it really, i just thing it'd be cool. Plus, it means more toys, like my super rad thermos that will keep coffee hot for a couple days and a new digital coffee maker. All enroute. The coffee and water filter are here though. Here, and ready to go.
I'm tired. I forgot to eat because i was doing fun visual basic things and playing tetris. I don't feel like eating, because almost everything requires preparation. I think i will make tomorrow's sandwich and eat some cold cuts.
also, OMFG. the shaw's at the prudential center closed, and a Shaw's in the City opened like right nearby, next to the Lord and Taylor. Now, I have some bizarre liking of supermarkets, they're just so goddam fun. So perhaps i'm a bit biased here, but the shaw's in the city was the coolest freaking place in the world. It was like tomorrowland in Disneyworld, except it wasn't a shitty section of a theme park that made you painfully aware that it was last renovated in the 70s, and it had nothing todo with the future. Maybe it was more like fantasyland, but without the pirates of carribbean. Although there was a kickass seafood section. Anyway, it was majestic.
ok, that will do it. I will now finish ripping the pernice bros. album and then get to bed and uhh sleep till tomorrow.

upward over the mountain
not at the faint/les savy fav currently, but that is alright. I do hope to go see the decemberists tomorrow night though.
i'm really taken by the decemberists album, "castaways and cutouts." everything you read will of course mention them in league with neutral milk hotel, which is fair enough, the singer's voice is really similar to mangum's, the instrumentation is diverse, and the songs have a weird bizzaro story-telling thing to them. the decemberists are more laid back than the moments of super-engergized pop NMH would hit, and the decemberists songs also have a distinct feeling running through them. the songs seriously evoke the setting of dirty late 1800s boston piers and alleys and whores and shit... it's got to be the accordion that spots some of the songs, gives the whole affair a salt-water sheen, and it just really grabs a hold of you.
i should go buy the iron and wine cd too. dunno why, since the mp3s i have are perfectly good, but it just seems like a cd i should have. talk about songs grabbing on to you... two guitars, super hushed vocals, and beautiful harmonies. it's folk music but it's not, beacuse folk sucks, it's so goddam sad, but oh so good. songs that just grab you and squeeze everything out.
finally bought new cds the other day. arab strap - monday at the hug & pint, a lovely disc of morning after laments and ballads to empty pint glasses from some scottish folk. hood - cold house, the latest into my canon of laid back indietronica, good shit... i guess most similar to aarktica, but without any droning... kind of like aarktica mixed with notwist and a little bit of early cex. Also picked up the new yeah yeah yeahs because it was like 6 bucks and i like it.
in other news, katie and i rocked the buffy and angel hardcore today. saw a wicked cool episode of buffy and an episode of angel which may have been the saddest thing ever. we hate joss. but we love joss. it's a weird little cycle.
Friday night saw x-men 2, which was totally badass. they have such a great franchise on their hands, i hope they keep up the quality. then katie oly and i went to roggie's.
saturday i sat around watching game shows much of the day, then went over to enjoy the weather and have some grilled food and beer at 14 lake, and then finally wonderbar, where katie mike and i went to see dave and brandon but ultimately sat in a corner making fun of anything we could manage.
yay, this song is giving me chills. music is back!

i've lived on a dirt road all my life
well, one of my every-couple-of-months-somehow-stumble-ont-wilwheaton.net made me remember "hey, i too have an internet presence" the difference is i was not the star of stand by me, nor have i ever (reportedly, i never really watched the show) ruined a star trek series.
So what's new with me?
Well, i try to get to sleep by 11:15 now, 11:15 is long enough for me to see what kind of stupid situation jack tripper can get himself into and then lose interst in how he gets out of it because it uually just goes back to him getting slapped or convincing mr. furley that he is, indeed, gay.
one note about three's company... is john ritter the best physical comedian of our time? i'm speaking strictly in the realm of sitcoms here, and i can't think of any good physical comedians of note. kramer always gets pegged for it, but shit, all he did is enter rooms oddly and occasionally bump into things and briefly spaz out in startlement... but john ritter as jack would go answer the door to greet his date and take fall after fall, and then fall again and roll around and then hit his head on the door and fall backwards and flip over the couch such that he took the lamp with him and the lampshade got on his head and then he'd stand up, walk into the door, take the lampshade off and kiss his date who had already left in disgust and instead he'd end up kissing larry. there's been no one like that since.
so what else is new with me?
in the past few days, i've downloaded and burned off about 20 future episodes of buffy and angel, so that when we get there we will not have to watch the lousy quality like the buffy we're currently on, but much better, almost tv type quality. however, katie hates me, and we will be lucky to get past buffy 4/angel 1 by september.
and that's about it i'm sure. i'd like to eat something tonight, but i'm quite lazy and bedtime is approaching rapidly. nothing of note in the past couple weeks i guess, a bar here, a party there, some flirting with bank girl there, you know, just boring stuff really.
i'd love to do something fun, like find pirate treasure in the back yard or make another easter mobile, but i'm just tired mostly, or if not tired, doing something else. ooh, the faint/les savy fav/schneider tm on sunday. bet it's sold out or i don't go.
i need new music, but what's available i don't want, and what i want i can't get at newbury comics and am too lazy to mailorder.
yah ok, l8r
