timorous me
word up
on thursday night tim was up, well i guess he's still here, but anyway, i met up with him at like 11 and we went to kinvarra, my first time ever there. i t was everything i had ever heard about it: lots of girls dressed all whorey. that's not fun for me when i go to a bar. i like going to a bar like the silhouette and playing darts, or just playng tee somewhere. seeing a bunch of cute girls dressed like sluts just makes me pissed off. it was cool though, tim knew the bouncer so we got to be the assholes who bounce the entire line, which was pretty substantial.
We were just there quick for a shot and abeer, we had to meet katie at the kells where she was with her two old roommates enduring a shitty bar. we got there and just kept to ourselves away from the stupid euro dance room and shit. they played the outkast song, which is the best song ever made and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. there was some guy there i think i knew and he had this awful hooded sweater thing on, which is bad enough, but he had the hood TUCKED INTO THE BACK OF THE SWEATER. it was possibly the most retarded thing i've seen, and none of could imagine what the hell he was thinking.
after work yesterday was poker in the basement in south boston. fun time that, and i actually won about a buck fifty. i was up probably $300 towards the end, but then i got greedy and just kept playing and staying in hands i shouldn't have. but hey, i won money and you really can't beat poker in the basement of south boston. i didn't think much of it at the time, but i did today: i got there at 6pm and left very close to 4 in the morning. that's 10 freaking hours of poker. granted, we had a little pizza party midway through, but that was 10 minutes long if that. that's just a whole lot of poker man. which explains why i had the world's WORST headache that kicked in around 1am. what's also nice is that now that i no longer live at caltha, i can just get a ride down to kenmore square since grappo lives on park drive and then from there it's like a 5 dollar cab ride home. the dude who's cab i was in freaking gave me 5 dollars change on a $20, and i think it was on purpose, but i wasn't that drunk so i noticed it. also, his cab smelled fucking awful.
the main problem with poker in the basement in southie is that it's a goddamn cigarette factory. i smoke maybe two a day unless i'm out, but in the basement in southie you go through a pack and don't think twice and it's freaking gross. but the money still smells nice after you leave so it's all good i guess.
yeah yeah so today i bailed on the BC/ND game even though i could've had a free ticket courtesy of real estate developer extraodinaire peter bailey but despite it being a GORGEOUS day i'm lazy as hell and didn't want to get out of bed at 10am to get the ticket. so instead i watched the game and then played videogames and then took a nap and then katie and iw atched the premiere of buffy season 6 and then sean came over and we watched snl and junk and now i'm here
cheers

awesome, i go to the twilight singers page and it crashes opera and i lose my entry.
screw that, some days i'd just rewrite like nothing happened, not going to be bothered with that.
Last weekend the Wrens played at Great Scott's of all places, after drinking beers and watching baseball all day at Tony's, we all headed over there. Good show, ad frank was there, i finally got the new CD which is super awesome.
katie and rented adaptation today. I liked it, until the third act, which i didn't like. I understand how clever and ironic and junk it was. Ho ho Mr. Kaufman, your character complains about how hollywood script writing is all vapid and cliche and junk and then his life becomes cliche and vapid like a hollywood script. I get it. It doesn't mean i enjoy watching 40 minutes of shitty hollywood screenplay which takes characters i like and throws them into unrealistic situations where their very characters are completely abandoned. Yeah sure, we get the joke, but at the end of the day i sat through 40 minutes of crap that followed a great movie. it was condescending and unbelivably pretentious.
uhh weird. New Cex album. I feel like being ridden came out in like, May. Hmm, recognize a lot of these songs from live cex shows. Seems like he's slightly changing directions once again. So far the straigh up hip-hop isn't really in the mix, it's less programmed beats than it is dark electro shit not unlike role model but with the rock factor cranked way the hell up. There's more singing, or at least not rapping. it's funny, you could ask "what does it sound like" and i'd say "cex." this is what, his 5th album, and though it's been a very varied road from the all electronic effort that was role model, somewhere there's a common thread, so much that he's really got a sound of his own now. and the bastard is younger than i am.
yeah, new position at work is, as expected, a lot of time. meeting on tuesday at 7, but not before i went to banana republic and bought billions of dollars of stuff. Meeting on wednesday that was cancelled so instead i went with patrick to a building that had a fire 30 minutes earlier. then thursday i went with rob to an annual in someone's $4,000,000 condo, which was umm, sort of unbelievable. there was so much money there i couldn't believe it. One guy, who i thought was part of the Star Market legacy, i find now after some rudimentary research was the OWNER of the whole star market operation until he sold it off to Shaw's in '99. There was also the dude who delevoped and owns the Roxy and other clubs and restaurants around boston. and then everyone else was just rich.
a couple links that i've been enjoying thoroughly because of my obsessions with people's anonymous problems: grouphug.us and notproud.com. voyeur at will. ps: notproud is much much better.
ok, it's that point of night where i'm just chilling out and adding one sentence every 20 minutes, guess i'll be off. starting season 3 of angel tomorrow. wuh-hoo.
scrolling up a paragraph, reading that notproud shit is just great. i'd love to participate, but reading anonymous confessions beats the hell out of making anonymous confessions. what's the point of doing it if no one can trace it back to you?

i like the cubs, i really hope they pull a miracle and win this, but i don't claim to be a super mega fan, but there are those out there i know... the following is for them.
To the cubs fan who interfered with a foul play to left field costing the Cubs the second out in the 8th inning, almost definitely the game, and probably the series:
I hope you are a die hard cubs fan
i hope you remain one for life
i hope you live to be real old and then on your death bed muse about how it would've been great to see the cubs in a world series and then remember how you fucked it all up
then i hope you kill yourself.
Enjoy the opposing team foul ball, asshole.

hey ya
gooo cubbies. another nail biter extra innigns game.
I"m really getting sick of baseball and the unnatural hold it has over me that it hasn't for, well, all my life. I didn't want to go downtown to watch the game last night, but i was eerily compelled to. i think what it boils down to is that i really enjoy drinking, and this citywide fascination with baseball provides the perfect excuse to drink and the perfect time to do it. First of all, sunday, wednesday, tuesday, whever, if there's a game on, you can drink and its fine. But, and much more importantly this, whereas on a normal night you can't really head to a bar and start drinking until 10:30 or later, with all this baseball shit going down, you crack a beer at 7:30, get wasted by 11 and are in bed before midnight. I can't think of a better way to do it than that, you have your fun, get your buzz, get your sleep and are fine the next morning.
anyway, yeah.
so i suppose i was offered a promotion today. one of the property managers left and i've been offered that job. what does that mean? work that doesn't make me want to die and could possibly be interesting and at the very least makes me feel like i'm doing something decent. But a lot of it, i'd be taking the helm of like 30-40 small (4-10 unit) condominiums. it'll be a lot more hours, what with having to go to 3 or 4 meetings a week and all. it means about a 40% pay increase (which seems great until you assign the actual dollar values to it). But most importantly, it means a kickass new desk, heh. It'll be interesting at least, i have severe confidence issues, mainly the feeling that i'm 22, i don't keep my hair short and neat, i have a bag with buttons on it... basically, if i was 40 years old and owned a $600,000 condo, i wouldn't take the 22 year old kid seriously, let alone allow him to be in charge of getting a new roof onto my building.
ok enough of that cubs win hurray. and i just downloaded the outkast song and want the rest of the album.
cheers

i'm lovin' it
baseball has taken over my life, something about both the cubs (team beaten into my skull since birth) and the local sports team being in postseason has made it all very compelling and while i usually can't sit through an inning, i've watched like 9 games from start to finish in the past week or so. tonight's game is particularly annoying and has been very tense to watch and is now in extra innings.
oh neat, arnold swartznegehaewraeeaa won. Hail to the Governator.
man this is intense and junk and i want to go to sleep.
went to newbury for the belle and sebastian cd today and found along with it, the dplan remix disc, the new ted leo ep, and what's extra special and i had not even heard about is a 3 song cd from the twilight singers. greg dulli owns you. and i guess the new twilight singer cd is next week. probably will be pretty different than twilight... what with the 5 or so years apart and all different contributers.
yeah, so as i said, lots of baseball. Friday watched the game and stayed in, Saturday saw much of the sox game at Tony's until going to meet lex katie and mike at our house for drinking and stuff, sunday went to the avenue with tony and watched the game, last night went to tony's for the sox and drank steel reserve, and today i'm detoxing and sitting around, now quite ready to go to bed but it's the 10th inning and i need closure.
whoops, HR marlins.
game over cubs lose that sucks wish i was in bed an hour ago.

made-up dreams
so i'm sitting here with a bottle of robert shaw cabernet (which sucks, the merlot is pretty palatable when you take into consideration that it's $3, i dislike cabernet sauvignon to begin with so a $3 bottle just can't be good) and watching paradise island and its funny becuase while i've been totally invested these past two weeks that i actually sat down nd watched it while not doing anything else, they just brought back the whole cast to judge the winners or whatever and they all parade in and i'm like "who the fuck are all you people" the only ones i recognize are the ones who were on last week, heh. Hopefully some scandal is yet to come, still have an hour left.
SO monday night is poker night. I went down to tony's (somehow forgot my phone and keys in the maelstrom of leaving) and get to tony's and he's like "hey dude, i tried calling you but the game's off." Ok, i think, just wasted 20-30 minutes or whatever, but whatever, still a lot of going home and going to sleep that i can do. But then i remembered that built to spill was playing the Paradise, a whole 5 minutes away from me. So i go down there, it's of course sold out, but i stick it out despite the 20 other people sitting there begging for tickets. About 15 minutes in to it i see some dude walking up with a girl and like 5 tickets. So i asked, he says maybe, then another guy immediately walks up, asks and steals focus. TUrns out ticket dude was waiting on a friend and if she didn't bring one of her friends he had a ticket. SO we wait around a minute, i say, jokingly, "any points since i asked first" and then continue waiting. Meanwhile other dude starts chatting up ticket dude about built to spill and seeing them live and blah blah blah. Then ticket dude's friend shows up without the extra and ticket dude goes to talky dude "sorry he asked first" and i am a winnar at face value.
Got in to the show and I found Johnathan (jonathan? i when i talk to soemone all the time but can't spell their name) up on the balcony. the show was underwhelming, at best. I dunno, i expected magic, or at least them playing "car." I got neither. Which is not to say it was bad. It was certainly proficient, if not great at times, but it seemed to be completely on autopilot, which is not cool with me. Doug Martsch just seemed to be going through the motions. The song choice was rather weak too... like tons of songs i expected that weren't played: car, the plan, randy describes eternity, broken chairs, big dipper, i would hurt a fly, etc. And the long form version of cortez the killer was disappointing because instead of insane doug playing guitar like a damn fiend we got "awesome jamaican raggae section" which sucked ass terrance. Technically proficient, at times awesome, otherwise very pedestrian hour and a half.
Then tuesday the sick overtook my body and i was miserable all day. Watched the cubs game last night, which is fun, my cubs fandom is coming out of hibernation. I'm not really a fair weathered friend, it's just that i usually don't give a shit about sports. College football began the breaking of that mold, then came my fantasy football leagues (#4 out of 20, hopefully next week will bump me up) and now i just went to the red sox playoff clincher and the team i was raised to love is in the playoffs, so good time to start paying attention, right? Kerry Wood was a fiend.
Today i was better, all that's really left is the remnants of a stuffy nose and a deep cough.
job search 2k3 is in full force, someone called me today at like 3 but didn't leave a message. I'll just assume it was the job of my dreams and i've now lost it.
I bet charla is not attractive in person, that would be my prediction.
this show sucks. Back to paradise hotel.
